- topic “Be Good And Do Well” The Continuing Story
Last night on twitter -topic laid out the story of his pending project titled “Be Good And Do Well”. Here we have posted the complete series of tweets outlining the entire story and now I give you -topic.
Since I wasn’t able to drop BGADW last year
, I’ma drop some insight on the basics of what all happened, and what was supposed to go down. Cool? …just rock with me for a sec.
BGADW was originally set to be released December 21st, 2012. YEA. I was aiming to drop my project on the day the world was supposed to end.
I’d recieved features from @gravySLIM, @MgaCzar, and was waiting for some collaboration assistance from @BadMuthaTunka, Paris P(@ADdplus) @teamfromnowhere, and a few others, including @rapsodymusic and some more I can’t name, cuz I like surprises and n shyt.
I’d cut at least 20 tracks for BGADW, which I’d planned to narrow down to 18. Much like the 21 tracked “Finally Confident”, the number 18 was a very significant number in my life. It was the time I was in the most critical state I’ve ever been in, as far as trying to figure out where exactly I fit in, as far as making an impact on the world. I was in art school, struggling, hating life. yeh.
The first song of the project, ironically, was, in fact, “Be Good and Do Well”. I’ll be dropping the single sometime near my b-day. I had all of the demos for BGADW ready, aside from @BadMuthaTunka’s hella important verse on a song called “Heaters”, which I LOVED.
My goal was actually to make a project that could contest with NaS’ “Life Is Good”, and Kendrick Lamars’ “Good Kid, m.A.A.d City”, as a freshly emerging artist. In all honesty, I was pretty damn close. Nigs gon’ see though. hah.
I was geeked on inspiration, coming up with ways for the project to be fused with live instrumentation and everything. I wanted to pull an idea out of my head and translate it into audio and visual, PERFECTLY. “Be Good and Do Well” was kinda a movie, by ya boy.
When my computer crashed, I not only fckd BGADW. @teamfromnowhere’s scores for a documentary also perished, along with some stuff I wanted to shoot over to @13thvillage for some audio/visual projects, and a few backroom EP’s, including a 2nd S.A.P. @teamfromnowhere, wha up?
I remember me and @KoolQuise opening for @kendricklamar at the Palladium, n I was super bummed out, cuz I wanted to release the single for “BGADW” that night, but I wasn’t able to professionally record it, nor was the beat mixed/mastered. shortly following the week of the show, my baby went blue screen. I saved a few files, but all in all, it was a devastating blow to my pride n my motivation but, we’re here now, so fuck it. I’m fightin’ to save and drop some of the best music I’ve ever made, in my opinion. Be Good and Do Well. Yuh the saga continues. Be Good.
